Journal Review-time Methodology and Sources

This page explains how ranking and journal-detail data are calculated and verified.

Data snapshot:

1. Review-time Definition

Review days = accepted date − received date

Publication or online-first dates are not used as substitutes for acceptance dates. Early Access papers with complete received and acceptance dates are valid samples; incomplete records are excluded from ranking calculations.

2. Ranking Samples and Sorting

Statistics and listings use all collected valid samples, deduplicated by DOI and article URL, with no per-journal sample cap.

Public rankings include journals with at least five complete review records. Journals are sorted by average review time, then median review time, complete sample count, and journal title.

The average reflects the overall speed of the current sample, while the median reduces the effect of outliers. Sample counts are shown so a single paper is not mistaken for a stable journal-wide pattern.

3. Paper Dates and Evidence

Candidate papers are found by journal title, ISSN, and DOI. Received and acceptance dates come from publisher pages, article PDFs, structured publisher XML, or publication-history metadata from Crossref.

Each journal page lists the papers behind its statistics, including received and acceptance dates and available PDF, DOI, and publisher-page links for verification.

4. 2025 CAS Category Sources

  1. The 2025 CAS category and TOP fields from the 2026 Emerging Journal master list are used first; existing values are preserved.
  2. The 2025 CAS source table fills gaps by journal title only when the master-list field is empty.
  3. When both sources are missing, the value remains empty and the site displays “No data” rather than treating the journal as unindexed.

5. OA Status Sources

OA status first uses the field in the 2026 Emerging Journal master list. When missing, journal-level OpenAlex data matched by ISSN or a recorded publisher page is used. OA status is not inferred from publisher names, journal titles, or a single open-access article.

6. Usage Notes

  • Actual timelines vary by topic, editor, reviewers, revision rounds, and submission date.
  • Discipline rankings use exact normalized discipline fields from the 2026 Emerging Journal directory; multidisciplinary journals may appear in more than one ranking.
  • Category, OA, and paper-cycle snapshots may have different dates; each page displays the public data update date.

7. Maintainer and Corrections

Independently maintained by Mayn, focusing on SCI/SSCI review times, journal categories, and paper-level evidence.

This independently maintained journal-information project is not affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Clarivate, or any journal publisher.

If you find an issue with paper dates, journal categories, OA status, journal information, evidence links, or missing data, please use the data-correction page to submit it. The maintainer’s email address is not published on the site or in the page source.
